  • The rubella rash begins on the face and spreads over the entire body within 24 hours
  • The rubella rash lasts 3-4 days
  • Every child should receive a MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) immunization after their first birthday
  • An MMR booster is given at 5 years of age
  • A child is not contagious after receiving the immunization
  • Rubella is a harmless illness except to the unborn ( can cause severe birth defects)

    • Requires no treatment
    • Avoid any contact with pregnant women or women attempting to conceive
    • If diagnosis of rubella is confirmed, it must be reported to the CDC by your Health Care Provider
