  • moist and warm areas, such as the groin, are a good environment for fungal growth
  • other areas affected by the rash includes the buttocks and thighs
  • men are usually affected more than women
  • Urgent Care - Have you identified one or more of the following symptoms?
    • signs of infection (redness, swelling, pain, fever and/or discharge)
    • symptoms continue after 2 weeks of self management(sometimes prescription antifungal medication is required, or another problem may exist)

    Self-Management - You can help in the following ways:
    • apply OTC antifungal medication (Lotrimin AF, Micatin, powder or lotion) until rash disappears
    • continue using antifungal for up to 2 weeks after rash disappears to avoid recurrence
    • dry area well after showering
    • tinea cruris is caused by the same fungus that causes athlete's foot, so dry feet last
    • wear loose fitting underwear and pants
    • change underwear daily and wash in hot water
    • do not share gym clothes or towels
